 - The League of Nations was formed on 10 January 1920 under the Versailles Treaty after World War I with the efforts of US President Woodrow Wilson to promote international cooperation, peace and security. Its parent country, America, could not become a member of the League of Nations due to its permission from the Parliament there.

It is headquartered in New York and has an initial membership of 51. The organization was given this name by the then US President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
